The Technology

What Is A Vapour Absorption Machine (VAM)?

Vapour Absorption Machines (VAMs) use heat rather than electricity as their primary energy input to produce cooling. Using established absorbent - refrigerant pairs such as Li Br – water and NH₃– H₂O, the cycle uses heat to separate the refrigerant from the absorbent, allowing the refrigerant to evaporate and absorb heat from the chilled fluid circuit; the refrigerant vapour is then absorbed back into the solution and the cycle repeats. With multi fuel capability, the system can use different thermal energy sources to deliver large scale, continuous cooling while significantly reducing dependence on electricity.
